Quebec Snowmobiler Missing After Crashing Into Lake
Last Updated: Monday, November 29, 2010 | 10:05 AM ET Comments3Recommend4. CBC News Search teams are returning to a lake in Quebec’s Lanaudière region on Monday to search for a missing snowmobiler. La Sûreté du Québec said the 64-year-old man was riding his snowmobile with another man in Saint-Michel-des-Saints at about 10 p.m. on Sunday. SQ spokesperson Gregory Gomez del Prado said the men lost control on a turn, and the snowmobile landed in the frigid waters of the lake. “One of them, the passenger, was able to get out of the lake. He walked one hour to get some help,” he said. When firefighters and police arrived on scene, they couldn’t find the other man. Gomez del Prado said the snowmobile was recovered a few hours later. Police are reminding snowmobile drivers to be cautious and stay on the trails, especially early in the season. Twenty six people died in Quebec snowmobile accidents in 2009. Saint-Michel-des-Saints is located 160 kilometres north of Montreal.
