G.E. Voluntarily Recalls Some Dishwashers

WASHINGTON GE Appliances & Lighting is voluntarily recalling 174,000 dishwashers due to a potential fire hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday. The company is recalling the GE Profile and GE Monogram dishwashers because condensation can drip onto the dishwasher’s electronic control board, causing a short circuit and resulting in an overheated connector, which poses a fire hazard. GE has received five reports of fires; no injuries have been reported. The Profile dishwashers were manufactured between July 2002 and December 2005, and the Monogram dishwashers were made between January 2004 and December 2006. They were sold at stores nationwide from July 2003 through December 2006. Consumers should stop using the dishwashers, disconnect the electric supply and contact GE for free in-home repair or to receive a rebate of $200 to purchase a new dishwasher.
