Associate Professor Dies in Mount Union Bus Crash

By Ted Achladis FOX8.com Reporter 12:00 p.m. EST, January 12, 2011 BUCYRUS, Ohio — One person is dead after a bus crash involving members of the University of Mount Union wrestling team, Fox 8 News reports. According to the Bucyrus Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. Route 30 in Crawford County. The bus was carrying the wrestling team, coaches, statisticians, an athletic trainer and athletic-training students. It was returning to campus following a match at Ohio Northern University. Twenty-eight people were on board the bus when it hit an Ohio Department of Transportation plow. Daniel M. Gorman, 52, of Hartville, an associate professor of human performance and sport business at Mount Union, was killed. Gorman was also the university’s director of athletic training. The plow driver was not hurt, but four other passengers on the bus were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. They were all treated and released. It is not yet known if the accident was weather-related. Authorities continue to investigate. Staff members of Mount Union’s Office of Counseling Services and the university chaplain will be made available beginning on Wednesday to offer support to campus community members.
