Written by Lauren Suit Monday, 22 August 2011 11:23 WILDWOOD — A 13-year-old was sent to the hospital and four others were injured after part of a ride on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing Pier broke, according to police. On Aug. 19 at approximately 9:15 p.m. a section of steel scenery became detached from the Sea Dragon, a pirate ship that swings forward and backward, on Mariner’s Landing and struck the 13-year-old rider, Morey’s marketing supervisor Lindsey Young said. Police said that it was part of the ship’s mast that fell away. The guest, whose name or gender were not released, was transported to a local hospital to receive further treatment, she said. Several other guests also received first aid and were released. Young said the appropriate authorities were contacted and are investigating the incident and the ride remains closed. The incident is the second time this summer that a guest was injured while on the rides at Morey’s Piers. On June 3, a Pleasantville 11-year-old, Abiah Jones, died after falling from the Giant Wheel ride during a school trip. State inspectors found the ride to be safe, but her death prompted the state Department of Community Affairs to require a two-rider per vehicle policy and issue new height requirements.
